Modern Foreign Languages – Spanish

Modern Foreign Languages teaching is new to Knowles Primary School and we are very excited about the introduction of Spanish to the Key Stage Two curriculum. The teaching and learning of MFL provides many wonderful opportunities to learn about other countries and cultures. We believe that a high-quality foreign language education should foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. What’s more, providing pupils with knowledge of Spanish vocabulary and grammar will allow them to develop their communication skills. Our lessons are fun and interactive allowing the children to develop and use a range of skills in diverse and engaging ways.

At Knowles Primary School we are aiming to create enthusiastic language learners and develop positive approach to language learning throughout life. We have a specialist Spanish teacher who focuses on developing four language skills i.e. listening, reading, speaking and writing. In Year 3 and Year 4 the main focus is on developing listening and speaking skills; whereas, in Year 5 and Year 6the main focus is on writing and reading along with speaking and listening. We want our pupils to become familiar with sounds and become confident in speaking Spanish.

We are hoping that you as parents and carers can help us with the development of your child’s language skills. You don’t need to be a Spanish speaker! Encourage your child to sing songs they have been taught at school or simply welcome your child in the morning with Buenos Dias!
