Enriching our curriculum

Expand your mind, challenge yourself, learn more, do more and try more. Get enthusiastic, passionate and excited about the unknown. Try something new, visit new places, dance to the latest beats. Simply get out and give it all and you will never stop growing, smiling and loving life. – Ricardo Housham.

At Knowles Primary School we believe passionately in giving the children ownership of their learning. We support our children in becoming ‘aspirational’ – aiming high – in order to make the most of their learning opportunities. We enable our pupils to succeed through challenging tasks and activities that encourage them to take risks.

Knowles Primary School believe that our pupils learning should be designed around their individual performance and ability. We also believe that the focus of a great curriculum should not be restricted to written success alone. Our enhanced curriculum has been shaped around these beliefs known as our core drivers.

We develop their ability to think independently, enabling them to transfer their learning to all aspects of their life; preparing them for the future and encouraging them to live their learning now!  We actively teach the skills needed to be a successful learner.

Our curriculum offer is supplemented by a range of additional opportunities which aim to further enhance, stimulate and engage our children in new experiences. These include Community mornings, curriculum enhancement activities whole school or linked to a specific year group, field trips, educational visits and cultural events.

We encourage our staff and children to have an active partnership between school, pupil and home.  We value the importance of learning outside the classroom and carefully plan trips and visits which enhance the learning in school.  Our children are also taught about the community in which they live and are encouraged to work in co-operation with other members of our school community.

Our school actively support  charities, both local and further afield, which are  encouraged through our Community Assemblies.

Through our enhanced curriculum, our children will be encouraged to develop:

  • Lively and enquiring minds through questioning, investigating and making rational decisions.
  • Interests and skills, including physical skills, which will enable them to live their learning now!
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live.
