Assemblies

At Knowles Primary School, our assemblies are a time when the whole school comes together to celebrate and share in relevant, meaningful experiences, provide opportunities for the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and create a sense of awe and wonder.

We have traditional assemblies three times a week where the whole school comes together. Two days a week each class has a class-based collective worship session in the form of a full Kaleidoscope colour therapy session. These sessions are carefully designed to give children time to be still, to reflect and to make sense of who they are and their place in the world.

Aims and Purpose

  • During collective worship we aim to:
  • Fulfil statutory requirements of a daily act of collective worship for all pupils.
  • Develop a community spirit and sense of school identity, a common ethos and feeling of belonging.
  • Provide a variety of opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
  • Provide opportunities for expressing shared experiences and interests and for celebrating special occasions together.
  • Provide weekly opportunities in which pupils interact with other year groups, staff and the community.
  • Provide opportunities to learn about and explore our shared British Values
  • Provide time for children to be still, to reflect and learn to express their thoughts and feelings safely.
  • Explore together the world in which we live.
  • Encompass all aspects of school life, all curriculum areas and reflect the school’s ethos and values.

The School Community

Assemblies are non-denominational and conducted in a manner which is sensitive to the faiths and beliefs of all members of the school community.

Assembly time is important to the start of our day, providing children with a calm time to come together and share in a moment of quiet reflection before starting a busy day of learning.

Children behave respectfully and thoughtfully and enter and leave assembly quietly listening to music chosen by a member of staff selected to fit our music theme of the term.
