On behalf of the Governing Body I would like to extend a very warm welcome to Knowles Primary School.  The Infants and Junior School amalgamated in September 2012 with a new Senior Leadership Team and Governing Body.

As Chair of Governors I am in school usually on at least a weekly basis and would be very happy to either meet with you and/or receive feedback from you via the school office.

We are a community primary School and I mean this in the fullest sense of the word ‘community’. Both staff and governors see us and you, the parents and carers of the children you send to us, as a real partnership working together to ensure that each and every child has the opportunity to learn and achieve their potential not just academically but as an active, social member of their school and wider community.

The amalgamation combined with an increase in population within our catchment area has provided an opportunity for our School to expand to three-form entry. From autumn 2013 we started admitting up to 90 pupils into our Foundation classes and will continue to grow year-on-year until we reach a capacity of 630 pupils from Foundation to Year 6 by 2019. These changes are necessarily going to involve alterations, both to the physical structure and layout of the school and the complement of staff. These changes are changes that will impact on everyone: pupils, staff and you as parents. We are confident they will evolve into positive advancement for the school in the longer term but in the short – medium term we ask for your co-operation and support whilst alterations are made to the buildings and staff alike. Change is never easy but we want to make these transitions as smooth as possible so need to work together. Change is also a huge opportunity as well as a challenge and as a governing body we are embracing all the potential three form entry will give us.

Governors believe that the School has an important role to play in helping shape the aspirations and educational opportunities of our pupils.  We want to see Knowles Primary at the heart of the community it serves, this is currently being evidenced by a number of extra- curricular activities designed to give pupils a chance to learn different skills and enjoy new experiences.  These activities vary according to season and reflect the skills of the staff we have. Other useful services for busy and working parents include our Breakfast Club which operates daily on the School site providing pupils with a nutritious meal and company at the start of the day and an After School Club run by Milton Keynes Council which collects children from School and takes care of them until 6:00pm.

Our multicultural School reflects the local community and benefits from the diversity this brings. We are committed to respecting and valuing the beliefs of parents and children from a broad range of faiths.

We strive to be an outstanding school and we all have a role in achieving this aim.

As you peruse our webiste you will gather that for parents the main responsibilities lie in the following areas:

  • Attendance – regular and punctual attendance is vital if children are to make the most of what the School has to offer, build relationships with their peer group and achieve their potential.
  • Uniform – this is available from school and local stores and provides a sense of commonality for the children, a sense of belonging and identity which is essential for developing confidence.
  • Homework – every child in school, no matter their age, will quickly incorporate the idea of taking their learning home with them through a variety of activities so that it can be perpetuated through both home and school. Your support in this area is essential.

Our approach to learning is inclusive and child-centred. We are committed to providing a high quality of education delivered through a stimulating and well-planned curriculum.  We are fortunate to have a caring and dedicated team of teaching and support staff who are committed to working with parents and carers to enable every child to achieve to their full potential.

If you choose Knowles Primary School for your son’s or daughter’s education, governors hope that your child will be very happy here. We believe that a good education comes about through effective partnerships and we invite you to be an active partner, working with your child’s teachers and playing a part in school life.  There will be many opportunities for you to come along and join in at assemblies, events, trips and of course parents’ evenings.

Our website aims to provide parents and carers with general information about our School.  If you would like to learn more please feel free to contact us by telephone or arrange to visit the School.

Knowles Primary School is an exciting innovative place to be and we look forward to you and your child joining us as part of their educational journey.
